“It would be a big, really cool, Technicolor, ‘Pulp Fiction’,” the actor says.
Tom Hardy might have dropped out of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but that doesn’t mean that he’s cut ties with DC Entertainment. Just the opposite, in fact, as he hinted at an “absolutely awesome” project in the works.
Talking to Collider, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor said that he has “something cooking with Warner Bros. which is also a comic book, it’s a DC thing.” The project, which he specifically said was “not even a movie,” is something that he said “contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, Technicolor, Pulp Fiction…It’s a psychological f—fest, it’s absolutely awesome.”
The closest he got to an actual description was saying that it is “as if you would take Transmetropolitan and make it happen, but it’s not that out there it’s something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be f—ing awesome.”
For those wondering about that Transmetropolitan reference, it was a long-running political science fiction series written by Warren Ellis about a renegade journalist attempting to speak truth to power during the reign of two U.S. presidents. Quite how that connects with Heat, Batman and Ocean’s Eleven is an intriguing proposition indeed.
As for the platform for the project, Hardy played it coy. “It’s real estate, it’s prime real estate which is sitting there right under everybody’s nose that no one’s really thought about yet and it goes TV and movie,” he said. “I can’t believe that nobody has even –I know they thought of it but no one has actually blown life into it yet.”
So, it’s not a movie but it’s also something that goes TV and movie, and it involves Transmetropolitan, and something that’s right under everybody’s nose. Start your speculation engines.
Mad Max: Fury Road is released May 15.
