Thrill seekers Tom and Mika are about to embark on what seems to be the toughest road trip imaginable; from Yakutsk, the coldest city on the planet, to Oymyakon, the coldest inhabited place on Earth. And the only way to get there by car? Across the 1,260-mile M56 Kolyma Highway, also known as the Road of Bones. Built by Gulag prisoners during the Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin era, this lethal frost-covered track is only passable during winter when the rivers are frozen over. With layers of rock hard ice, unlit wilderness, tyre-ripping paths and temperatures so cold it might freeze the car engine, Tom and Mika have their work cut out.
The DRIVEN TO EXTREMES adventure continues in China where Henry and Neil take on the vast, untouched and wild Taklamakan Desert, also known as the Desert of Death. With temperatures at an engine-busting 50 degrees Celsius and sand storms at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour, the duo must work hand-in-hand to cross over 470 miles of the largest shifting sand desert in the world – from Hami to Urumqi – where water is as scarce as the signs of life. One mistake and they will be stranded; one misjudgment of speed and the car may roll; among these scorching dunes, there will be no helicopters to rescue them.
DRIVEN TO EXTREMES then heads to Malaysia where Adrien and Mika take on one of roughest jungle trails in the world, at the height of the monsoon season. The pair will attempt to cross the 16-mile Ulu Sedili trail, northeast Johor, where countless dangers await in the feral undergrowth and rivers, before a 124-mile drive to the village of Kampong Peta. Locals know that the route destroys gears boxes, rips out radiators and tears apart tires, but the real danger is the weather. During the monsoon season, unsuspecting rain showers can turn into deadly flash floods within minutes.
